Preparing for Your First Notary Appointment

First signing? Most appointments take under twenty minutes when signers arrive prepared — and most delays come from three avoidable mistakes. Here is the checklist our notaries wish every first-timer knew.

Do Not Sign in Advance

The golden rule: the notary must watch you sign. A pre-signed document cannot be notarized as-is — at best it means starting over, at worst a second appointment. Bring every page unsigned and sign at the table.

Bring Valid Photo ID

A current driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID works in most states. Check expiration dates the night before — an expired ID is the single most common reason signings stall.

Know Your Signers and Witnesses

Everyone whose signature needs notarizing must appear with ID. If your document needs witnesses, confirm whether we should bring them — one message to us the day before settles it.

Ask Anything

Unsure which notarial act your form needs? Wondering about copies, fees, or timing? Ask before the visit. We would rather answer three questions by phone than watch a signing fail for lack of one.
